Ghana passport application process

A passport is a basic right that every citizen is entitled to. Any Ghanaian citizen can go through the passport application process and receive a Ghana passport within a few days. The Online Passport Application in Ghana has now been extended to all Passport Application Centres (PAC) across the country. It used to be only available in Accra but that is no longer the case.

Any Ghanaian who is in need of a passport can apply for one online. The normal online passport application process should take about a month before you receive your passport but there is also the express service which should give you your passport within 2 weeks.

The entire passport application process has been digitised over the past few years. This is to cater to the thousands of requests each day for a passport. This article will highlight the passport application process in 2021.

Requirements

Before you get started with the passport application process, it is important to know the requirements for a Ghanaian passport. Below are the requirements for a Ghana passport application.

1. Birth Certificate (Proof of Ghanaian citizenship)

You will require the new biometric birth certificate. If you still possess the old birth certificate, you shall need to get a new one at the B irths and Deaths Registry in the region of your birth. The Births and Deaths office is the only place where you can get an official Birth Certificate in Ghana.

2. Documents to Support Identity

In addition to your Ghanaian birth certificate, you will be required to get any other official form of identification such as a driver’s licence or Ghana card.

3. Proof of Profession

You will need to prove that you are a worker if you are of age. An introductory letter from your employer is enough or even your work ID if you have one. The ID should have your name on it as well as that of the company you work for and your position within the company. If you run your own business then the business registration documents shall be required. Workers in the non-formal sector will not be required to prove their profession.
